Wikipedia Editing Standards

Posted on 29 September, 2015  in Writing Articles

Wikipedia is a sprawling labyrinth of information that has been carefully cultivated for over a decade. Wikipedia has become the one stop nesting ground for information as needed by students, scholars, and the casually curious. The website has over 20 million pages of data and information on just about every topic you can imagine. In order to keep up with the stress of constant updates, the owners of Wikipedia have turned solely to the readers to keep the website current. Wikipedia runs to make business Wiki pages on an open source editing policy that encourages social interaction while conforming to the rigorous standards that Wikipedia enforces. Editors work on a volunteer basis and there are hundreds of thousands registered to the website. However, only a small portion of those members actually make any edits. For those that DO wish to edit, there are key take aways that must be acknowledged.

Wikipedia Is Not for Everything
While the nature of the digital encyclopedia will leave many people assuming that the content is endless, there is actually a set of standards put in place to control the expansion. Wikipedia may have unlimited room to add pages, but only pages that meet notability standards are allowed to be implemented. Wikipedia wants content that people actually will look for and utilize on a consistent basis. So before considering adding a page, check through the notability standards to see if it passes. If the content does meet the notability standards then go ahead and do a cursory search of the encyclopedia. If an editor finds that their content is not currently online, the page can be added.

Posting Personal Pages
When it comes to making it into Wikipedia as an individual there are very strict rules in that regard. Editors must also keep in mind that, in order to maintain the neutral point of view rule, they cannot create their own personal pages. So as a result many Wikipedia editors who meet the notability standards will turn to services like Get Your Wiki. At Get Your Wiki a team of editors will create a personal page for the editor, following all of the guidelines that Wikipedia demands. This is a slam dunk way to get into Wikipedia without breaking any rules.

Practice Makes Perfect
New editors are heavily pushed toward practicing their format by working on their User Page. The User Page is a place where editors can write up content, get advice, and then eventually have their page published. This is where all new editors should begin their work.

Griffin’s Rise to Success as CEO of Citadel

Posted on 29 September, 2015  in CEO Profiles

Ken Griffin, the self-made billionaire CEO of Citadel LLC, continues to lead the company down the path of financial success. Griffin has been listed on the Forbes 400 several times over the years which lists his net worth at $7 billion, placing 184 of the world’s richest billionaires. In 2014, Griffin rose from 203 to 189 on Forbes list of America’s richest. Griffin’s rise to success has made him one of the most influenceable people in the banking world.

Griffin began working with hedge funds from his Harvard dorm room with $265,000 he had gathered in funds from family and friends. His immediate success allowed him to create another hedge fund and he was soon managing over $1 million in assets. His innate financial genius and prudent business decisions allowed his investments to remain stable through the stock market crash of 1987.

This stability and exceptional return on his investments allowed Griffin to found Citadel in the 1990s. His initial $4 million investment grew exponentially, and today Citadel is worth around $24 billion. Griffin has recently expressed an interest in taking the company public in 2016. Taking a hedge fund firm public is not an easy task and comes with substantial risks, but Griffins superb ability to navigate through difficult financial times leaves Citadel in competent hands.

Griffin is also well-known philanthropist, having donated hundreds of millions of dollars to a variety of organizations over the years. He has donated to children’s hospitals, museums, libraries, and more. In just the past two years, Griffin made headlines for donating $150 million to his alma mater Harvard and $10 million to the Museum of Contemporary Art in Chicago. His donations do not go unappreciated; Harvard responded by naming the Financial Aid Office after him. His donation will have a direct impact on Harvard students, providing scholarships and making the elite college more affordable for many.

In his personal life, Griffin has three children and attends a Presbyterian Church in Chicago. He owns millions of dollars of real estate in Florida, Hawaii, Chicago, and New York. In September 2015 he spent $200 million on condos in New York, making a record for the most expensive personal real estate transaction. In politics, Griffin describes himself as a “Reagan Republican” and has donated to many political campaigns that support his beliefs in limited government. In addition to being involved in politics, Griffin is a devoted art collector. In 1999, he paid $60 million for Paul Cézanne’s Curtain, Jug and Fruit Bowl, currently on loan at the Art Institute of Chicago.

Griffin continues to be one of the most influenceable people in the world, especially with his involvement in finance, education, politics, and the arts.

What to Know About Shaygan Kheradpir

Posted on 27 September, 2015  in CEO Profiles

I am Shaygan Kheradpir a learned person, and my academic certificates are proof of this. I have a bachelors, masters and Ph.D. in electrical engineering. I was at Cornell University, and I majored in control systems. In my lifetime, I have used my knowledge to come up with mission-driven teams that can drive change that is quite important to investors, customers, employees and the community at large.

I have been able to do this by crossing through various industry segments in the whole world. By doing so, I have been capable of coming up with connections and innovations at the boundaries of traditional disciplines that have become a success. Recently, I was appointed the Chief Executive Officer of Juniper Networks.

Juniper Networks is a leading company in the sector of networking in Silicon Valley. Before this appointment, I used to work for the Barclays group. I held the post of chief operations and technology officer. This global retail bank has its headquarters in London, and I joined it in 2011 as a chief operating officer for that region.

However, I advanced to become the chief operations and technology officer for the whole bank worldwide across investment, retail, corporate, business, wealth and cards banking. During my time, I became known for my major contribution when it comes to cultural change. These is what enabled the Barclays bank change along the lines of the industrialization procedures of the 21st century.

Some of these processes include front-to-back digitization using industrialized controls and product innovation that are essential to the lives of human beings. Some of these innovations include Pingit and Cloudit. I began my career at GTE Labs situated in Boston. I took up the responsibilities of network routing, management, and control.

After some time, I climbed the ladder of success and became the head of software systems lab. I put my all in this Lab to build a top-class organization, and my efforts were rewarded since the organization developed to become the country’s first national network management platform for GTE.

The platform integrated infrastructure, transmission and switching and it was known as TONICS (Telephone Operations Network Integrated Control System). GTE was now able to transform its network business into a highly effective and efficient consolidated network operations for the company using the systems innovations I came up with. I was later moved to Dallas where the headquarters of GTE are situated.

The Yeonmi Park Tribulations

Posted on 25 September, 2015  in Advocates

A first look at Yeonmi Park indicates a life of a humble girl that has easily attained celebrity status in a short period. In fact, many people still wonder how a girl, barely 21 years, controls such a huge following in the world. It all seems rosy until one listen to her story. The truth is that Park never finishes her story before the audience go into tears. Wondering why? It is the tribulations of her past that are worsened by the fact that she and her mother suffered in the hands of those that were meant to protect them.

Together with her sister and parents, the family lived in North Korea in the past happy times. The father was closely attached to the political circles, and life was good. They had never seen trouble in the past. Things began to change when the government lost its sources of funding and could not take good care of its citizens. Poverty was everywhere, and diseases were characteristic of their life. Park’s father grew financially broke and had to seek alternative methods to get funds so as to keep his family alive. He engaged in illegal trade and was apprehended by the authorities who sent him to jail. While he continued suffering, the family began to suffer in a way that none of them expected. With her mother and sister, they planned to get into China and seek a better life.

They were helped in China by the human trafficker. Park has traumatizing moments on when a trafficker raped her other as she watched. She could not do anything about it. After days of walking on mountains, they arrived in China and were set to begin a new life. They found jobs in restaurants for their upkeep.

Later, they moved to South Korea where life was better, compared to North Korea and China. It is in the course of the calamity that stroke North Korea that she began to develop resistance to the actions of the government. According to Park, it is a government that does not care about its people and declines to play its role as the provider of the nation. People have no basic needs or social amenities while those of the political class continue to enjoy life with their families. She advocates for the rights of the people of North Korea and encourages governments to take part in bettering the livelihood of its citizens. She has become a key figure in the human rights war waged against North Korea, and the country has grown extremely agitated by her continued attacks.

It is her voice that has set her on the path of war with her government. Park has exposed the suffering and oppression that government has waged in its citizens and how they prevent them from knowing the truth. It has been done by controlling the media and many other freedoms that people ought to have, for their well-being and understanding of issues. The simple act of exposing the government secrets has made the government label her a traitor, defector and an embarrassment to the North Korean nation. However, her bravery and unshaken effort to champion for rights is highly regarded and admired by many people.

It is said that a leader is one who makes a positive change and tries to bring a difference wherever they are; Susan Mcgalla is this and more, as can by ascertained by her service and dedication in community development in her home area in Pittsburg. Prior to joining and serving Wet Seal Inc. as the chief executive officer, she and her husband, Stephen Mcgall have served in various community projects e.g. Susan chaired the Hillman Cancer Centre Gala in, she is a trustee of the University of Pittsburg and has also been involved in huge support for the University of Pittsburgh’s Cancer Institute. If this does not show Ms. Susan’s philanthropic nature and a dedication to causes she feels strongly in, then nothing else does!

The daughter to a local football coach, Susan was born and raised in Eastern Liverpool, Ohio, the younger of her two brothers. A sense of discipline, responsibility, self-confidence and focus was evident in her since back then and she proceeded to earn a bachelors degree in business and marketing from the Mount Union College, where she now serves in the board as an advisor. Being a mother of two children, wife and a high scaling businesswoman is no mean feat for the 54 year old lady. It has been sheer hard work coupled with a determination to excel in a predominantly male-dominated career. This has seen her scale the heights of the corporate ladder and finally outgrowing it, to form an autonomous private company that can steer corporations from the outside, as a consultant.

Her first stint after college was at the Joseph Horne Company, where she cut her teeth working in various marketing to managerial positions. This was before she moved to American Eagle Outfitters, where she found a foothold of her career. Throughout her fifteen years stint at the company, Susan saw a meteoric rise through the ranks and corporate hierarchy to finally sit at the helm of the entire company as the President. She began as a divisional merchandise buyer for the women’s clothing and diligently worked her way up through various managerial positions to finally become the Chief Merchandising Officer and president of the company brand, a position from which she rose to head the entire conglomerate in a similar capacity.

Ms. Susan Mcgalla was to later leave the company after a long, successful career there, to become a private consultant for the retail industry, an industry in which she had gathered vast experience and which she is passionate about. It was not long before another big corporate came seeking her wealth of experience to help turn around their dwindling fortunes. She served Wet Seal inc. as the Chief Executive Officer for almost two years before her desire to go private overpowered her and she left for private practice, this time for good. Her success in the corporates helms has been replicated in her private company, P3 Executive Consulting and most recently, as the Director of Strategic Planning and Growth in the Pittsburg Steelers limited company. Her friends describe her as smart, efficient, driven and always seeking to improve the situation, strong characteristics to possess as a leader in her cadre.
