James Dondero Brings Hippos Back to Dallas:

Hippos are once again a featured animal at the Dallas Zoo. One of the men responsible for their return is someone very familiar to people in the Dallas-Fort Worth community when it comes to giving back. It’s James Dondero.

Dondero is the co-founder and president of Highland Capital Management. He and his company give an estimated $3 million a year to various charitable organizations around the city. One of those donations went to the new hippo exhibit at the zoo, and it totaled one million dollars. This money went to the construction of a nearly 4,500 square foot lodge next to the hippo exhibit that can be used for educational displays and to host events.

In all, the hippo exhibit cost $14 million and took four years to make it a reality. The hippos can frolic in a 120,000 water tank that also has an 8×24 viewing window, allowing zoo visitors to get an up close and personal view of the animals. This marks the first time the Dallas Zoo has been home to hippos since 2001. The two in this new enclosure — Adhama and Biopelo — came to the Dallas Zoo from the Albuquerque Bio Park.

James Dondero has more than 30 years worth of experience in the field of credit and equity markets. He formed Highland Capital Management in 1993. Before that, he was a bond manager at American Express and the Chief Investment Officer for Protective Life. Dondero has donated money in the past to SMU’s Tower Scholars Program, Uplift Education, and the Perot Museum of Natural Science.

Jose Henrique Borghi Finds Global Success in Advertising

The Brazilian advertising industry has been building a powerful global reputation after many of the world’s leading ad agency executives made their way from the training ground of their homeland to become world leaders in the industry. One of the best-known advertising executives in the world is Brazilian Jose Henrique Borghi, a business leader who made his way into the advertising and marketing industry in his native Brazil after struggling to find the right direction for his life as a young person; the CEO of Mullen Lowe Brasil can thank his sister for giving him the push to become a world renowned advertising executive.

Prior to the establishment of his own ad agency, BorghiEhr, Jose Henrique Borghi was struggling to find a career he wished to be a part of as he came to the end of his high school education; Borghi’s sister decided to take him to an exhibition of different careers and inadvertently pushed her brother into advertising after he became impressed by the marketing materials produced for the exhibition. After studying at college, Jose Henrique Borghi set out to become a success in advertising and joined the respected Standard & Ogilvy agency as he took the first fledgling steps to start his career.

By 2006, Jose Henrique Borghi had set out in partnership with his business partner, Ehr Ray on their own ad agency that would later become the Mullen Lowe ad agency. The two creatives combined their skills with no other members of staff to develop an agency that would become one of the most respected in Brazil and win an astonishing 14 Golden Lions at the Cannes Film Festival; these global achievements ensure Jose Henrique Borghi becomes known as one of the world’s leading advertising executives with a string of impressive campaigns to his name.

David McDonald Speaks about his Time with the OSI Group

In a recent interview, David McDonald had the opportunity to answer one or two questions about his role with the OSI Group. He notes that he has been with the company for the last 30 years. While he cannot speak about the vision of the company before he joined board of management, he says that the success of the company has resulted from the aspiration and desire to grow. He also notes that nothing has changed today as the same hunger and desire to grow remains. According to the OSI President, the motto of the company is to establish itself as the best food provider across the globe. He also appreciates that the company meets new challenges along the way and it takes creative solutions from its employees to tackle these challenges. However, for the company to develop, they have encouraged their customers to be part of the solution. This means that the OSI Group engages with customers from time to time. This is an effort to learn about their beliefs, cultural restrictions and tastes. The OSI president said during the interview that for a food company to grow to become an international brand, it must first understand the culture and tastes of the local people.

David McDonald OSI Group says that the reason why the company believes in mergers and acquisition is because this is the only way that they can know their clients. One of the latest acquisition by the OSI Group is Baho Foods from Europe. During the time of acquisition, the company used to operate in 18 European countries including Germany, the United Kingdom and Netherlands. According to David McDonald, the OSI Group does not fire local employees after any acquisition. The same is true for the current management team. David McDonald’ says that the company has developed a habit of engaging equipment manufacturers from time to time. Asked what OSI Group customers should expect in the coming years, David McDonald’ says that customers should expect better solutions and better products. David McDonald says that the OSI Group is involved in philanthropy as it helps the less privileged where it can. He did not disclose any specifics of a project that they had supported.
